A Lee Briers drop-goal two minutes from time saw Warrington Wolves snatch a 25-24 victory over Hull FC.

Briers was the hero at the death wearing his RBK rugby boots. Both sides were guilty of throwing away commanding leads, but it was the Wolves who held their nerve to leave last season's Grand Finalists Hull FC still searching for a win in 2007.

Tries from Richard Whiting and Lee Radford - both converted by Paul Cooke - had put Hull 12-0 after 18 minutes.

And although a four-try burst from Michael Sullivan, Briers, Jon Clarke and Vinnie Anderson had put Warrington in front, Gareth Raynor and Matt Sing has levelled matters with six minutes left.

However, the Wovles had the final word as Briers, who was on target with four kicks at goal, rifled over the match-winning one-pointer.

Hull had been handed a way into the game after referee Steve Ganson had sent Paul Rauhihi to the sin-bin for dissent after 13 minutes.

And the visitors took full advantage of the extra man to send Whiting over a minute later from a quickly-taken tap penalty.

Hull had doubled their advantage on 17 minutes when Radford pounced after Stuart Reardon had fumbled Cooke's kick ahead.

With Cooke converting both, Hull held a commanding lead. However, although Rauhihi was still off the field, Warrington crossed for the first time when Sullivan dummied his way over from close range.

Briers converted and then nipped over on 28 minutes to cut the deficit to two points. And by the interval the Wolves were level when Briers slotted over a penalty.

The second half saw Wolves take control of the match and they took the lead for the first time when Briers and Martin Gleeson set Clarke up on 47 minutes.

Briers converted and Warrington extended their lead further when Anderson crossed.

Hull finally stopped the rot when Great Britain winger Raynor darted over and Cooke converted to cut the lead to 22-18 on 63 minutes, only for Briers to add his fourth kick of the match five minutes later.

However Hull were level after 74 minutes when Whiting worked the opening for Sing to score and Cooke converted.

But Hull's hopes of picking up at least a share of the spoils ended in disappointment when man-of-the-match Briers stole the show with his late drop-goal.
