HUDDERSFIELD 10 ST HELENS 18

LEON PRYCE was in sparkling form wearing his Puma Rugby Boots to help defending champions St Helens to a hard fought win as they kicked-off the new Super League season with a against Huddersfield at Galpharm Stadium.

Lee Gilmour was the man to score the first try of 2007 for St Helens before Chris Thorman reduced the deficit with a penalty kick.

Pryce scored Saints' second try, making good use of a lovely pass from Sean Long and finishing off a fast move after a smart break by Roby.

Pryce also played a key part in St Helens' third on 20 minutes, weaving through the Giants defence before Long put Ade Gardner in in the corner with a pass.

A tough encounter ensued and tempers boiled over with nine minutes remaining, Kevin Brown and Mike Bennett came to blows after a big hit on Crabtree.

However, St Helens managed to hang on until the final whistle despite some spirited play in the closing stages by Huddersfield, as Pryce took the plaudits for his fantastic display.
